Maira Horta, LMFT
Maira is thrilled to share a culturally sensitive & eclectic therapeutic approach with individuals, couples, and youth. She is a licensed Marriage and Family therapist (MFC #50536) and holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from National University. Maira has been working in the counseling field since 2006; has trainings in EMDR, Emotionally Focused Couple therapy (EFT), Theraplay (attachment based therapy for children and youth), Cogntive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Neuro-Coaching and Quantum Assessment (for aptitude and career decisions).
Born and raised in Sao Paulo – Brazil, Maira moved to San Diego, California in 1996. She fell in love with San Diego and made it her home. Through the years, Maira had the great opportunity to travel and study extensively through South America, Europe, and United States. She speaks Portuguese fluently and Spoken Spanish and offers therapy in these languages.
Maira has experience treating trauma and PTSD, Acculturation issues, Stress Relief/Management, Depression and Anxiety, Relationships, Gay and Lesbian issues, Self-Esteem, Child and Adolescent issues, Spirituality, Grief and Loss, Couple’s issues, Sexuality, Addiction and Substance Abuse.
Maira blends traditional therapeutic approaches exploring past dynamics with those that are innovative and solution focused. Maira is also a certified yoga instructor and uses aspects of mindfulness to assist clients. Most importantly, she is genuine, direct and committed to making you feel comfortable.
