Andrew Allen, MD
Dr. Andrew Allen is a licensed and board-eligible psychiatrist. He has broad experience in treating affective (mood) disorders, anxiety, trauma, neurocognitive and psychotic disorders as well as substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric conditions with HIV. He completed his undergraduate degree at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina graduating Phi Beta Kappa and valedictorian of his class. He then worked at a non-profit dedicated to providing medical care to underserved and uninsured adults before attending medical school at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He completed his psychiatry residency at The University of California San Diego where he served as chief resident of the inpatient psychiatric unit at the VA San Diego during his final year of training.
Dr. Allen’s treatment philosophy centers around learning about all the unique facets of a patient and helping them formulate their personal treatment goals. This is important not only to ensure the proper diagnosis but to also address how a patient’s symptoms are impacting their functioning in various areas (social, relationships, school/work, financial, etc.) and then ensuring these are addressed and ultimately improved upon throughout a patient’s treatment course.
In his spare time, Dr. Allen enjoys traveling, taking spin classes and playing with his Golden Retriever.
